Hythe & Dibden Parish Council

Councillors act as ambassadors for their community, keeping everyone aware of local needs and concerns and reporting back on ward and village matters.  Councillors represent the voice of their community as a whole, whilst being aware of, and considerate to, specific minority needs.

Hythe and Dibden is divided into 6 wards (Butts Ash, Dibden, Dibden Purlieu, Hythe East, Hythe West, Langdown)  and there are 13 councillors in total, representing an electorate of almost 20,000 people.  The next Parish elections are in May 2027.

The individual areas of Hythe, Dibden and Dibden Purlieu have history dating back to the middle ages, and are located on the banks of the eastern slopes of the  New Forest on the English South Coast adjacent to the Solent. The civil parish of Dibden was created in 1894.The village of Hythe was taken from Fawley parish and added to Dibden parish in 1913. Since the 1950s the villages of Hythe and Dibden Purlieu grew enormously, and today the Parish is dominated by those two settlements. In 1983 the parish was renamed to Hythe and Dibden, to reflect the importance of Hythe as a new focal point of the Parish.
