Solar Powered Christmas Lights are Going Ahead!
At a meeting of the Christmas Lights Group, comprising local traders, representatives of St John’s Church and Parish Councillors; the Parish Council informed the group the Solar Powered Christmas trees for the lamp columns in Hythe and Dibden Purlieu have now been ordered. The 31 Christmas Trees are similar to the ones used in Fawley and will cost £5580.
In addition the Council has agreed to match fund monies raised by local businesses up to £1000.00 to enable traders to provide supplementary decorations/lighting which will add to the visual appearance of the parish over the festive period. £1000 has also been set aside for a Christmas tree with lights for the centre of the village and work is on-going to source a suitable tree.
The Parish Council are working in partnership with local businesses, St John’s Church and the Wessex Cancer Support Group to identify more ways to encourage participation in events leading up to Christmas. Already agreed is the Best Decorated Shop Window competition (one in Hythe one in Debden Purlieu). Shops/businesses taking part will have their windows judged and the winner will receive a Shield and £50 to donate to a charity of their choice. The prize money has been donated by Councillors James Binns and Dan Poole from their District Councillor grants.
