Hythe Tuesday Market 5th April; Chairman's Message

April is nearly upon us and with it the Tuesday Market moves to the Village Centre next Tuesday 5th April.  Many of the favourite stalls from the former market at St John’s Street Car Park will be moving to the new location, there are many new stalls coming too, with more arriving in the coming weeks, plus some of the businesses from Hythe will also have a market presence.

Since the community consultation and the 2008 Action Plan we have been steadily working towards making Hythe not only a vibrant village but an attractive visitor destination.  The Promenade and St John’s Street Car Park have been revamped and the Beach Bus and New Forest Tour Bus now visit Hythe which brings in growing numbers of visitors during the summer months. The revamped Village Centre Tuesday Market is another reason to attract local people and visitors to Hythe and the increased footfall is beneficial to existing businesses.

Chairman of the Council, Chris Harrison, said; “We work closely with the businesses in Hythe and they proposed the re-location of the market to the Village Centre some years ago as they could see the benefits this would bring to increasing footfall.  Since then we have been working towards the move which finally comes to fruition on the 5th April. We are also mindful of supporting local start-ups and the market operator, Southern Market Traders, is giving those that qualify the opportunity for  a stall.  It is an exciting time for the future of Hythe, we have weathered ‘austerity’ better than many towns across the country and with support from local people we are confident that Hythe will continue to grow into a very vibrant village”.

Enquiries about a stall on the market should be directed to the market operator SMT on:  07515 797878
